OUR PROGRESS
Here are some of the ways that Generation Y Not has helped to raise awareness and inspire change!
Y Not partners gathered to be educated about the MDGs and brainstormed about the solutions. Guests from Grassroots organizations came to speak about the challenges and progress of their work. Guests included rock artist Jon Bongiovi who spoke about his involvement with HELP USA. Activities were planned that raised awareness in the summer resort community of East Hampton.

After submitting grant requests to a local church's outreach committee, Generation Y Not received funds to supply 100 children with insecticide bed nets made by AIDS widows in Kenya. The next year, $4,000 was awarded for the reconstruction of tin classrooms at The Galilee Primary School in Nairobi.

Teen artists in the community were asked to donate their art to be part of a silent auction and teen night event that successfully raised $12,000. The event had an African theme complete with African drummers. These funds helped drill a well, that now provides clean drinking water to The Holly House Orphanage in Kenya.

Participants are invited to attend Lobby Days on Capital Hill. They are given the information and tools necessary to speak to their representatives about the importance of supporting the "Education For All" act.

GCE members with Spokesperson and pop star ShakiraTake a Bite Out Of Hunger was the theme for this lunch time event. Participants encouraged classmates to add their signature and take a photo with Creative signs. Over 350 people were photographed and their faces were sent to Washington to remind our leaders of their committment to the MDGs.
Books, Toys and Games were collected and brought to an orphanage in La Romana, Dominican Republic. Six Generation Y Not partners had the opportunity two years in a row to visit the orphanage and play with the children. In 2008, seven Y Not partners went to donate clothing and volunteer at the Blossom Garden Orphanage in Montego Bay, Jamaica.

Generation Y Not partners have painted large rocks bright orange and then have written alarming global statistics on them as well as decorating some with words of encouragement. These rocks have been left in public places in the hopes that they will educate passersby and possibly inspire someone to reach out and make a difference. These rocks can be found in East Hampton, Locust Valley, New York City, London, Venice, The Dominican Republic, L.A., Jamaica, Cincinnatti, North Carolina and New Jersey.
